More on the contraception insurance mandate

John Cochrane took more time and said it much better than I did in my earlier post.

Along these lines, should insurance companies cover beta blockers to prevent heart attacks? What about insulin for diabetics? After all, they are small, predictable expenditures. Instead of "insurers", maybe we should stick with the term "manged care organizations (MCOs)." As their name suggests, MCOs engage in managing costs through group contracts with providers and decreasing demand for expensive care, partly through preventive measures like beta blockers, insulin, and birth control.
