I've been watching for an exact number on UM's endowment hit from the financial crisis and related recession. Thursday's Ann Arbor News provided one: the UM endowment lost about $2 billion in the last six months of 2008, and now stands at around $5.6 billion. Ouch!
On the other hand, the endowment had run up a lot in the preceding couple of years, so it is just back to around where it was when I came to Michigan four years ago. Not great news but not disaster either.
