In particular, I had no idea that police in (some) other countries are much more constrained in what they can say to people they have detained.
Law enforcement provides a very clear example of a policy domain where both our focus on a one-dimensional policy / political spectrum and our current level of partisan polarization prevent us from making progress. There are other policy alternatives to the defunding of the police offered by the left and continuing to believe everything the police union says and to do everything it asks as offered by the right.
