BBC and the broken windows fallacy

Oh dear, oh dear .... really, is there no one at the BBC who knows better?

Wikipedia - you really don't have to look far! - page on the broken windows fallacy.

Bonus from watching the video: a short interview with Rocco the new car dealer.

To be fair to the Beeb they never said anything about the hurricane increasing total welfare, just that it was good for the auto dealers. I thought they toed the line quite well actually, especially after the UBS analyst provided a tempting opening for a true application of the broken windows fallacy by bringing more aggregate measures into the conversation.
